As an adult learner, you've likely spent years on grammar apps, podcasts, and textbooks. You understand the rules. But when a native speaker asks you a question, your mind goes blank.

Understanding a language and actively producing it are two entirely different neural processes.

You don't need another textbook. You need an online Spanish class focused entirely on guided, active conversation.

GOT QUESTIONS?

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I learn Spanish?

Learning Spanish helps you communicate with millions of people around the world. It can open doors professionally, make travel easier, and help you connect with different cultures. Spanish is also one of the easiest languages for English speakers to learn, especially when you practice with meaningful and comprehensible content.

How can I learn Spanish fast?

The fastest way to learn Spanish is to use it consistently, even in small amounts. Focus on understanding first, not on speaking perfectly. When you read, listen to, and see Spanish every day, your brain begins to recognize patterns and adapt naturally. Over time, this consistency adds up. One day, you’ll realize you understand more and can communicate more naturally, often without even noticing when it happens.

Is learning Spanish hard?

Learning Spanish is not as hard as many people think, especially for English speakers. Spanish pronunciation is consistent, the alphabet is familiar, and many words are similar to English. What usually makes Spanish feel “hard” is trying to memorize too much grammar at once instead of focusing on understanding real language.

How do you know if you need Spanish lessons?

It’s common for adult Spanish learners to feel stuck in the intermediate plateau, able to understand and read Spanish, but struggling to have real conversations with other Spanish speakers. That’s where having private lessons with an experienced language educator can help you. As your conversational Spanish tutor, I’ll help you overcome your fear of speaking Spanish and support you along your journey with personalized lessons tailored to your specific goals and needs.

What makes a good conversational Spanish tutor?

A good Spanish tutor should always begin by understanding your specific needs. After all, the whole point of hiring a private language tutor is to get a personalized teaching experience that you would not get in a traditional language classroom, in which the teacher has to pay attention to many students at the same time. When it comes to adult learners, a good language tutor should also be patient and encouraging to create a safe space in which you feel confident speaking Spanish, especially when you’re not 100% sure of how to articulate what you’re trying to say. Experienced language educators understand how important it is to create this safe environment for every student.

What Is the Difference Between a Conversational Partner and a Conversational Tutor?

While both can help you practice speaking Spanish, the experience and the results can be very different.

A conversational partner simply chats with you in Spanish. This might be a friend or someone you meet at a language exchange event. While this can be helpful for practice, most conversational partners don’t have the training or experience to teach a language. As a result, you may not receive the feedback or guidance you need to improve.

A conversational tutor, on the other hand, helps you improve while you speak. A tutor provides feedback, corrects mistakes, introduces useful vocabulary, and helps you express your ideas more naturally. A professional tutor has the knowledge and experience to guide your learning and make sure each lesson supports your specific goals and needs.

With a conversational tutor, every conversation becomes a learning opportunity, helping you build confidence, improve accuracy, and progress faster in your Spanish.

Can’t I just practice my Spanish with AI?

Well… yes, you can. AI can be really helpful to get you started, but it can only take you so far. First of all, an AI tutor will only catch and correct so many errors when you speak, but many others will fall through the cracks and become fossilized; in other words, they’ll be harder to correct because you’ve gotten very used to them.

Second, AI lacks the cultural awareness of a person with firsthand experience of how the language is used in real conversations with other human beings. Just because a sentence is grammatically correct doesn’t mean it sounds natural. So, if you don’t want your Spanish to sound robotic 🤖, you should start practicing with a real person instead of a robot.

And third, I think the whole point of learning a language is to connect with other people, be it by having conversations, listening to the music they make, or reading the books they’ve written. I know AI seems very convenient, but there’s just something contradictory in learning a new language in isolation, don’t you think?

But I’ve seen cheaper lessons on XYZ platform?

Yes, you can find online lessons for as low as $4 in some online tutoring platforms. But a large number of tutors on those platforms are more like Conversational Partners than real, qualified language educators. They’re natives who’ll talk to you but may not have the training or experience to help you achieve real progress in your language journey.

There are some real, qualified tutors on those platforms, too. But they can be hard to find and won’t usually stay for long. This is because tutoring platforms take a significant cut of what you pay your tutor. In some cases, up to a third of it. Crazy, right?

So, if you really value and want to support the work of professional tutors, consider doing business directly with one of us.

I'm a complete beginner (A0). Is this for me?

Absolutely! With El Cafecito even Spanish absolute beginners (A0) start producing sounds and basic phrases from day one. We use visual aids, repetition, and immense patience to get you comfortable with the basics before moving to advanced structures or grammar concepts.

I'm already advanced (C1). How will this help?

For advanced Spanish learners, we focus on native nuances, rapid response times, idioms, and specialized vocabulary (e.g., business or regional slang). We push you out of your comfort zone so you sound less like a textbook and more like a local.

What platform do you use for the lessons?

All our 1-on-1 private lessons are conducted online via Google Meet. You'll receive a secure link in your calendar invitation once your booking is confirmed.

Do I need to purchase textbooks or materials?

Not at all. We provide all the necessary conversational prompts, digital resources, and post-lesson digest documents containing the vocabulary and corrections specific to your session.
